Monday, 30 June 2008: Kingmaker (NZ) (Last Tycoon), a full brother to the proven top sire O'Reilly, will stand at Angelique Hyde's Greenacres Stud in North Canterbury this season.
O'Reilly (NZ) has gone from strength to strength this season, offering breeders a 70.2 percent winner-to-runner ratio and a proven Gr.1 record thanks to the deeds of The Jewel (NZ), Alamosa (NZ), Final Destination (NZ) and Master O'Reilly (NZ) and Guyno (NZ).
O'Reilly (NZ) currently heads the New Zealand and Hong Kong General Sires' premierships, and is more than making his presence felt on the Singapore and Australia equivalent, featuring third and eighth here.
Kingmaker commenced stud duties in 2003 after a lightly raced career, which saw him take out two of his three starts from 1200m and 1300m.
Kingmaker closely resembles his sire, Last Tycoon, a champion sire in Australia and the sire of more than 81 stakes-winners including the 18 Group One winners: Mahogany, Lady of Chad, Lady Jakeo, Ezzoud, Lost World, O'Reilly, Bigstone, Tycoon Lil, Knowledge, Marju, Tracy's Element, Taipan, Tytola, Magic of Money, Poliuto, Super Sheila, Arrow Carry and Privilege.
Multiple stakes producing sire son's of Last Tycoon include Marju (41 stakes winners), O'Reilly (33), Bigstone (10), Towkay (9), Just Awesome (6), Magic of Money (6), Inglesia (6), Poliuto (5), Ezzoud (4), Monde Bleu (3) and Zerpour (3).
With a view to Kingmaker's pedigree page, Gr.1 glory abounds.
As a racehorse his sire claimed the Breeders' Cup Mile and his dam Courtza headed the 1988-89 Australasian 2YO Classification after winning the Gr.1 STC Golden Slipper and the VATC Blue Diamond Stakes.
Courtza's half-brother, Our Pompeii, won the Adelaide Cup (twice) and the South Australian Derby.
Kingmaker's brother O'Reilly was an outstanding galloper, named the Champion sprinter-miler in New Zealand in 1997 and the NZ Horse of the Year after wins in the WRC Telegraph Hcp and the Levin RC Bayer Classic.
Based on his brother's most successful crosses, South Island breeders with mares by Centaine, Sound Reason, Grosvenor and Kinjite look best positioned to capitalise on Kingmaker.
Kingmaker will stand for NZ$4000 plus GST at Greenacres Stud alongside Ruby's Jester and Painted Black
