Hampton Court settled back in eighth place, one off the rails, following a strong pace (1st 1400m 1:22.95). He was under riding from the 600m but kept running on, getting to fifth at the 300m before catching the tiring leaders at the 100m. He then drew away to score by just over two lengths, winning in track record time (2:00.30). It was a very good staying effort and a good trial for the Victoria Derby. First Seal raced in fourth place, one off the rails. She was under pressure from the 600m, due to the fast tempo, but moved up turning for home. She hit the lead at the 200m and fought on for a good second at her first attempt at 2000m, in a quickly run race. Sweynesse was sixth one off the rails following First Seal. He made a quick wide run on passing the 600m, challenged strongly at the 300m and then fought on for a solid third after making an early bid in a strongly run race. Press Report was third on the rails to the turn and held on surprisingly well, stepping up to 2000m, for fourth (5.8 lengths). Panzer Division went to the front and set a very solid tempo before weakening from the 300m to finish fifth, beaten 13 lengths.
