This Listed 1400m at WFA for fillies and mares only saw the favourite Sleeping Beauty prevail comfortably on the Heavy 11 presented track. The track raced very biased today and was tellingly shown by a whopping seven of the nine winners being leaders turning in. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were fifth (three-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), led (seven-off the inside and half a length in front), led (five-off the inside and two lengths in front), led (five-off the inside and a neck in front), led (three-off the inside and a neck in front), led (two-off the inside and a neck in front), led (eight-off the inside and two lengths in front), led (three-off the inside and a length in front) and tenth (on the fence and ten lengths from the leader). Sleeping Beauty sat outside the leader and took the front near the home turn before swimming clear at the 200m and 100m and ending up scoring by two lengths in 1:31.82. The time was surprisingly only the second best of the day at 1400m with a Benchmark 72 won by a rising 7yo mare (she last won a race back in September of 2017) clocking 1:31.75. Today was the tenth win from twenty-three starts for Sleeping Beauty and a second Blacktype win having six weeks prior scored at G3 versus her own sex under WFA. Art Deco trailed the leaders on the inner then lost her spot to be sixth turning for home but swam though closest in to reach second at the 200m chasing in vain. New York Minute set the pace then was joined and headed near the home turn but fought well from third at the 200m and only just missed second spot at the line. Te Toro Pearl ran a game fourth as she was last away then improved wide to eighth and kept coming forward to be fourth midrace. Hello M'Lady was back and wide then improved third deepest across the top before turning for home fourth and she battled on okay all things considered to be beaten less than four lengths. A gap of five and a half lengths was then needed to find the sixth finisher Donna Anne Billy (beaten over nine lengths all up) and she was in a chain of runners across the line thereafter every length or so back to twelfth beaten almost sixteen lengths. The two last finishers stopped badly in Campari and Shellez Ace to be beaten over twenty-two lengths and twenty-five lengths respectively. Sleeping Beauty was too good in testing footing for her same sex and the rising 7yo mare has this season been in career best form. Art Deco was honest as usual and loves the mud while New York Minute ran a much better race to be a fighting on third after a deadest shocker resuming. Te Toro Pearl and Hello M'Lady are next up winners with the latter best left-handed. Some of the mares that missed today never copped the WFA scale or the footing or a combination of both and the race was definitely a Listed grade worthy race albeit pure wet track form.
