Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays at Australian TAB meetings for January 8.
Major metropolitan meetings are today held at Rosehill, Caulfield and Ascot.
ROSEHILL: RACE 7 @ 4:00 PM
LOVEPLANET (6) held his position throughout when finishing fifth behind Animate in his return. Open to good improvement second up and have to respect the booking of Bowman. Much better suited out to 1200m and looks to land the gun spot from the draw. Hard to beat. CANASTA (2) continues to find a couple better but has held his form throughout this preparation. On the quick back up and will give them all something to chase. Of his five career wins Parr has been aboard for three. Does appear a key switch. ABOVE AND BEYOND (3) often gets too far back but rates well on best form and should appreciate the solid tempo. AWESOME LAD (7) wasn't far off the mark at Eagle Farm last start and appears the next in line.

CAULFIELD: RACE 8 @ 5:05 PM
Big field but fancy that with the right luck in running IT'SOURTIME (9) can prove too strong for them. Strong winner to end Cup week then had a gap between runs when just picked off there last time up to 1200m. Back at 1100m with that run under the belt looks a plus and he has the ratings profile to knock this off. SCORCHED EARTH (15) is the one with the recent rating to trouble him. She was terrific winning at Flemington but a big field around a corner and a wide draw here makes this a very different scenario. DEFIANT DANCER (1) will be charging. Strong late work to win over 1200m last time. Little ease in trip might be against but have to respect how he went about it at Pakenham.
SELECTIONS: It'sourtime can be too good for these.
ASCOT: RACE 8 @ 4:50 PM
PROCONSENT (7) is racing in super form and was a good thing beaten last time at a mile one month ago. Drawn okay and with even luck he should take holding out. THE SPRUIKER (5) dropped to 1200m second-up and finished too well to win three weeks ago. Back up in trip and he's the logical danger. LORENTINIO (6) has been going well without winning and if he gets a cheap lead could take some catching. VITAL SILVER (1) can run well and LUKE'S GOLD (2) next best.
SELECTIONS: Proconsent to win. Trifecta 7-1,2,5,6/1,2,5,6.
