GREAT HOUSE

RACE 1 (4) GREAT HOUSE: Lightly raced import was secured from Ireland after winning his maiden over 2414m at just his second race start and has shown excellent potential with a win and two placings from his first three outings in Australia. Opened his local account over 2000m in soft ground at this course in late January and then went a month before a close third, again over 2000m on a soft surface, at Randwick on February 27 when he had to make a long run from last. Faces a 5kg weight increase due to the class drop from BM88 grade but he gets a big gear addition with blinkers on and 's clearly the one in this field with the biggest scope for improvement.

RACE 6 (2) EMBOLISM: Lightly raced Melbourne 3YO brings the best figures to this race after his eye catching fourth in the G1 Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington when he was finishing hard to be beaten less than a length in a blanket finish. He won twice up to 1600m in his first preparation last year and should be hard to beat under these conditions with any improvement off his latest effort, trusting that he is untried on anything worse than good tracks.

RACE 7 (10) RICH HIPS: Talented Melbourne mare brings strong form to this always difficult contest, having won three of her last four starts including two impressive Group 3 victories over 1400m both sides of her latest spell. Went out off an outstanding win at Flemington in November beating a G1 winner and came back from her break with an equally good victory in the G3 Mannerism Stakes at Caulfield where she again swamped the leaders under 58.5kg. Gets down in the weights from a suitable draw and with no qualms about her ability on affected tracks she is a worthy value bet. Her trainer Danny O'Brien has a strong record with his fillies and mares in Sydney, starting with this race in 2001 with Porto Roca.

TRIAL POINTERS

ROSEHILL March 4: Classy Group performer ROCK produced a super first-up trial, slicing through the field from last over the last 400m with Tommy Berry swinging to him to win the fastest of the two open heats over 900m (54.83; 34.02). He was visually strong and the clock backed up his performance as he ran a fast last 600m. The fastest 900m heat was won by the unraced 3YO maiden STAR CHERIE (53.29; 34.33) who has now won two successive trials and is sure to be competitive on debut

GOSFORD March 1: WANDABAA did it easily to win her 1000m heat by 2.63 lengths (61.19; 361.15) and is in good form to resume, having also won her previous Gosford trial last month. Group star MUGATOO worked to the line as expected for a strong second in the same heat in a trial that sets him up for his Melbourne trip for the All Star Mile. An 800m heat winner to impress was the 2YO newcomer MABEL (49.93; 36.28)

HAWKESBURY February 26: A notable 2YO winner over 800m was the Garry Frazer-trained ANAGAIN posting fast time (47.63; 33.54) for a soft win. James Cummings would also have been pleased with strong placings from TERJANE and LA SAGRA.

GOSFORD February 17: Mark down TIDAL IMPACT from the Damien Lane stable as a 2YO with excellent prospects after he ran away from his rivals over the last 200m in his 800m heat (51.21; 36.90).
