Impactful impresses

3 minute read

Impactful broke his maiden at Canterbury.

The Chris Waller-trained colt Impactful (3 c Deep Impact - Lucky Raquie by Encosta De Lago) broke his maiden at Canterbury on Friday night.

Owned by a syndicate that includes Arrowfield, Jonathan Munz's Pinecliff Racing and Heinrich Bloodstock, Impactful was having his second start on Friday having finished an unlucky fourth on debut earlier this month. Ridden patiently by Brenton Avdulla, Impactful finished strongly to beat stablemate Dancing Gidget (Al Maher), who started favourite, by a long neck with Strange Charm (Casino Prince) a close third.

Impactful is the first winner out of the Listed-winning Encosta De Lago (Fairy King) mare Lucky Raquie. She is herself a daughter of the Group 2-placed Monsoon Wedding (Danehill) making her a sister to the Group winner Precious Lorraine, whilst his third dam is Shantha's Choice (Canny Lad), the dam of nine winners headed by Redoute's Choice (Danehill) and his Group 1 winning brother Platinum Scissors.

Impactful's Not A Single Doubt (Redoute's Choice) half-brother is catalogued as Lot 44 for the forthcoming Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Arrowfield Stud. His Snitzel (Redoute's Choice) half-sister was bought for $1,000,000 at last year's Easter Yearling Sale by Dean Hawthorne Bloodstock.
