Son of Street Boss bound for Golden Slipper
Anamoe (2 c ex Anamato by Redoute's Choice) announced himself as a legitimate Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) candidate on Saturday when he landed the Todman Stakes (Gr 2, 1200m) and in the process became the 20th Group winner for Darley-based sire Street Boss (Street Cry).
Trained by James Cummings, Anamoe was settled at the tail of the field by jockey Rachel King who saved ground turning for home. The pair moved off the fence into the clear 300 metres from home and let down strongly to overpower early leader Profiteer (Capitalist), beating him by a head and thus ending his unbeaten record. Home Affairs (I Am Invincible) - who raced along the rail - was another half a length away in third.
“He’s a classy colt no doubt about that,” Cummings said.
“He’s got Golden Slipper written all over him. That will take most of our attention over the next couple of weeks.”
Anamoe landed the Merson Cooper Stakes (Listed, 1000m) on November 14, after which he was sent for a spell. He began his autumn campaign by running second in the Blue Diamond Prelude (C&G) (Gr 3, 1100m) and came into Saturday’s race off the back of a third-place finish in the Blue Diamond Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m).
Cummings said the colt had really thrived since his Blue Diamond effort and believes he deserves a shot at the Golden Slipper.
“This horse has had a really good two weeks,” Cummings said.
“He didn’t have the most ideal week leading into the Blue Diamond or the best barrier. He’s due one again (barrier) in two weeks time. The reward for the Slipper will be enormous. He’s a natural horse with the blinkers off. He was focused and is a live chance in the Slipper.”
Despite their defeats, Profiteer and Stay Inside (Extreme Choice) remain at the top of betting for the Golden Slipper at Rosehill on March 20.
Anamoe is out of SAJC Australasian Oaks (Gr 1, 2000m) winner Anamato (Redoute’s Choice), whose three other winners are headed by Irish Listed winner Anamba (Shamardal).
Anamato herself is a half-sister to 1996 Oakleigh Plate (Gr 1, 1100m) winner Drum (Marauding) and also hails from the same family as Group 1 winners Grand Armee (Hennessy), Yourdeel (Dundeel) and Dealer Principal (Flying Spur).
In 2019 Anamato produced a colt by Darley-based sire Shooting To Win (Northern Meteor) and after missing to Kermadec (Exceed And Excel), she was covered by shuttler Blue Point (Shamardal) last November.
Street Boss is the sire of 45 stakes winners in total, headed by seven Group 1 winners and he had seven yearlings sell for an aggregate of $1,105,000 at an average of $157,857 at last week’s Inglis Premier Yearling Sale.
