Dairerin overcomes shaky start to break his maiden at Ripon
The late National Stud shuttler Spill The Beans (Snitzel) was represented with his first northern hemisphere bred winner when his first runner in Europe - the Michael Bell-trained Dairerin (2 c ex Sakhya by Barathea) - broke his maiden over five furlongs at Ripon on Friday.
After ducking right at the start, the two-year-old took up the lead inside the final furlong and stayed on well to just edge out Showtime Mahomes (Darbirism) by a neck in the closing stages. Wee Loch Lass (Gutaifan) was a further half a length away in third.
The colt was purchased by Melanie Bowles for 6,000gns at the 2019 Tattersalls December Foals Sale, before being bought for by Robson Aguiar for 10,000gns 2020 Tattersalls Ascot Yearling Sale at Newmarket. He was then snapped up by Alex Elliot for £26,000 at the Goffs UK Breeze Up Sale earlier this year.
In winning the race, the colt becomes the eighth winner out of Sakhya (Barathea) and she is herself a half-sister to Group 2-winning pair Miletarian (Marju) and Mr Combustible (Hernando).
Further back this is the same family as Group 2 scorer Elizabeth Browning and Group 1 winner Johannes Vermeer (Galileo), who finished second in the 2018 edition of the Melbourne Cup (Gr 1, 3200m).
Spill The Beans has sired 42 winners in total, headed by Listed-winning duo Ellsberg and Tellall and he stood at Aquis Farm until his untimely death in 2019.
