After making an eye-catching debut sixth on debut at Sandown, the Sir Michael Stoute-trained My Swallow (2 c ex Green Swallow by Green Tune) got off the mark at the same track over seven furlongs on Wednesday and in so doing handed Arrowfield Stud shuttler Shalaa (Invincible Spirit) with his 11th first-crop winner.

The two-year-old colt was sent off the well-fancied 5/6 favourite and he gave his supporters no worries, sweeping clear to beat Bullace (Toronado) by two lengths, while Ebnzaidoon (Speightstown) was a further half a length further in third.

Purchased by Rabbah Bloodstock for 130,000gns at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale from the Newsells Park draft, the colt is out of Prix du Calvados (Gr 3, 1400m) winner Green Swallow (Green Desert), making him a half-brother to Group 2 winner Yellow And Green (Monsun) and a further four winners.

Green Swallow herself is a daughter of Listed-winning pair Green Girl (Lord Of Men) and Smart Whip (Dylan Thomas), while further back this is the same family as Listed-winning duo Gold Field (Unfuwain) and Rum Shot (Efisio), who was also placed Group 3 level.

Shalaa's first European-bred crop also includes the stakes-placed Saeiqa who ran third in the Coventry Stakes (Gr 2, 6f) at Royal Ascot. He is standing his fourth season in Australia for an unchanged fee of $33,000 (inc GST) at Arrowfield Stud this spring. Shalaa, who stands at Haras de Bouquetot in the northern hemisphere, is currently sitting in second in the leading first season sires table in France by both earnings and winners.
