The Anthony Freedman-trained Declarationofheart capped a notable day of results for his international sire Declaration Of War when he won Saturday’s G3 Chairman’s Stakes at Morphettville.
Declaration Of War, a son of War Front now based in Japan at the Shizunai Stallion Station owners by the Japan Bloodhorse Breeders Association, had previously shuttled between Coolmore’s stud in Ireland and Australia in 2014.
He had been standing in Kentucky since 2015.
His noted winners in the northern hemisphere have included the G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains (French 2000 Guineas) winner Olmedo and Group winners Speed Franco, Actress and Opry.
Declaration of War won the G1 Juddmonte International Stakes and G1 Queen Anne Stakes in 2013 and finished second in the G1 Coral Eclipse Stakes and third in the G1 Sussex Stakes and G1 Breeders' Cup Classic.
He is also the sire of the New Zealand 3YO Vigor Winner, who dead heated for first in Saturday’s G3 Cambridge Breeders Stakes at Te Rapa.
Declarationofheart (Declaration of War x Cardiac by Encosta De Lago) became the 13th stakes winner for his sire with his classy victory at Morphettville that sets him up for the G1 SA Derby at the same track on May 11.
Declarationofheart was secured by Freedman from Jamieson Park’s draft at the 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Sale at Karaka for $NZ135,000.
He has now won three races from 10 starts and has also been placed in the G2 Alister Clark Stakes for earnings of $212,355.
Declarationofheart’s dam Cardiac is a two-time winner and half-sister to G1 VRC Oaks winner Arapaho Miss (Danehill Dancer), who produced the Listed winner De Little Engine (Encosta De Lago).
Cardiac has since produced a Smart Missile filly, a Charm Spirit yearling filly and a colt by Reliable Man before going to Not A Single Doubt last season.
The Lauren Brennan-trained Vigor Winner (Declaration Of War x Savont by Exceed And Excel) landed his first stakes race when dead heating with Speedy Meady (Swiss Ace x Lucy In Disguise by Elusive City) in the Cambridge Breeders Stakes.
Vigor Winner was bought for $NZ50,000 at the 2017 Ready to Run Sale at Karaka and began his career with dominant victories at Hastings and New Plymouth in January and February.
In his only other start, he was beaten by a half head when second in last month’s G2 Wellington Guineas at Trentham.
Vigor Winner is the second foal from Savont, a half-sister to G3 placed Swords Drawn (Camelot). Cavont is from the G2 winner Palia (Last Tycoon), dam of G1 winner and sire Onemorenomore (Red Ransom) and three other stakes performers.
Palia is a half-sister to the G1 winner and sire Casino Prince (Flying Spur).
Savont produced an Iffraaj filly in 2017, a Sweynesse filly in 2018 and went back to Iffraaj last spring.
Speedy Meady is from the Elusive City mare Lucy In Disguise and is the 11th stakes winner by Swiss Ace. He had won at Rotorua last Monday but only gained a start on Saturday when four other acceptors were scratched on race morning.
Speedy Meady is owned by his breeder Russell Mead. Lucy In Disguise was sold for only $3500 as a weanling at Karaka in 2008.
