Invincible Double At Eagle Farm

3 minute read

Super sire I Am Invincible was prominent on Stradbroke day at Eagle Farm with a pair of classy black type winners.

The Chris Waller-trained mare Invincibella (I Am Invincible x Abscond by Galileo) successfully defended her G2 Dane Ripper Stakes title on Saturday while his exciting 4YO Victorem (I Am Invincible x Playful Miss by Foreplay) recorded a brilliant win in the Listed Hinkler Handicap.

A $185,000 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale purchase by Star Thoroughbreds, Invincibella is out of the unraced Galileo mare Abscond who has done a fine job at stud as she has also produced the Listed Galilee Series Final winner Secret Blaze (Sizzling).

Abscond is a half-sister to the G1 placegetter Light Up Manhattan (Manhattan Rain) from the Zabeel mare Luminata, a half-sister to the G1 Adelaide Cup winner The Hind (McGinty) and Listed winner Oregon Star (Oregon).

Abscond’s 4YO daughter Temolie was sold last month for $130,000 to Edinburgh Park at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale.

Abscond has an unraced 2YO filly by Sizzling and a weanling colt by Extreme Choice in 2018.

Invincibella has now won 10 races and has earned $2,158,303 prizemoney.

Victorem, trained at Port Macquarie on the NSW north coast by Jenny Graham, was passed in when offered as a weanling.

He was then offered as a 2YO at Magic Millions Ready To Run sale where he was purchased by Graham for $65,000.

Victorem is the first foal from the four-time winner Playful Miss (Foreplay) from a family that includes G1 winner Ball Park (Ahonoora) and G2 winner Danabaa (Anabaa).

Playful Miss has an unraced 2YO by Mahisara also in training with Jenny Graham. She has also produced a yearling filly by Denman and a weanling filly by Territories before going back to I Am Invincible in 2018.

Invincibella defended her win in this race a year ago (at Doomben) and took her record to ten wins including four at Group 2 level with a game effort here. She settled second (rails) soon after the jump dropping back to third passing the 800m. With not much pace on jockey James McDonald held that spot to the straight entrance then moved out one lane to challenge at the 350m. McDonald kept asking and slowly she caught the pacemaker at the 100m then held on gamely by a long head. Platinum Angel sat fifth (one out) past the 800m, got a lovely split three out at the top of the straight but took a long time to wind up and although gaining on the winner, the post arrived too soon. Prompt Response set a moderate pace and was a length clear at the 600m, tried to slip them at the 350m and was not collared until the 100m then fought on quite well to hold third from Noire who from third last at the top of the straight finished well to grab fourth late.
