Siyouni Progeny Perfect For Jean Dubois

3 minute read

French trainer Jean Dubois is becoming a key promoter of the progeny by champion European sire Siyouni in Australia.

Siyouni has sired only three winners in Australia and all three have been trained by Dubois, a former leading harness racing trainer in France who has established a successful thoroughbred stable in NSW since he migrated in 2016.

Based in the southern highlands, Dubois has won 22 races with 30 placings from less than 150 starters over the last three seasons.

He won the Albury Cup in 2017 with Green Sweet, a US import by Smart Strike, but his best metropolitan wins have been provided by Siyouni's progeny Aylmerton and See You Soon.

Aylmerton (Siyouni x Aloona by Smart Strike) won his first two starts as a 2YO in Sydney in 2018 including the G2 Todman Stakes at Randwick.

The 2YO filly See You Soon (Siyouni x Soneva by Cherokee Run) joined him when she won the Kirkham Plate at her racing debut at Randwick on October 26.

Siyouni's only other Australian winner Persepolis (Siyouni x Prevalent by Empire Maker) won a maiden at Canberra for Dubois last season..

Aylmerton, See Me Soon and Persepolis race for their breeder Dr David Chalkin. He owns Woodpark Stud at Mittagong where Dubois is employed as his stud manager.

Chalkin sourced the dams of Aylmerton, See Me Soon and Persepolis in France and imported them when they were in foal after they had been served to southern hemisphere time by Siyouni at the Aga Khan's Haras de Bonneval.

Siyouni, by Pivotal from a stakes winning Danehill mare, won the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardère as a 2YO, and is currently the leading French-based sire for the third consecutive year.

He is the sire of more than 30 stakes winners and 65 stakes performers including this year's Prix du Jockey Club winner Sottsass, six time G1 winner Laurens and triple G1 winner Ervedya with his yearlings selling for up 1.3 million guineas in 2019.

Soneva, the dam of See Me Soon, was a multiple G3 winner in France and Dubai and has produced five winners from five to race out including the four-time Listed winner The Blue Eye (Dubawi).

Soneva is from a daughter Lakab, dam of Australian Listed winner Roanake and the stakes-placed mare Nureyev's Girl, dam of the G1 winner King's Rose and G2 winner Hardham.

Siyouni had his fee increased to €100,000 for the 2019 breeding season.
