The New York Racing Association last week announced a temporary suspension of trainer Bob Baffert's horses on its three tracks, Aqueduct, Belmont Park and Saratoga.

"In order to maintain a successful thoroughbred racing industry in New York, NYRA must protect the integrity of the sport for our fans, the betting public and racing participants," NYRA president Dave O'Rourke said in a statement.

"That responsibility demands the action taken today in the best interests of thoroughbred racing."

NYRA said it also took into account that other Baffert-trained horses have failed drug tests in the recent past. The agency said it expects a final determination on Baffert's fate when the review into Medina Spirit concludes.
