It's Oaks Day 2019

3 minute read

Last year's St Leger winner Kew Gardens is favourite for the Aidan O'Brien - Ryan Moore combo.

The start of the big Epsom weekend with Friday's features the Coronation Cup and the Oaks, both G! and over the 2400m.

Last year's St Leger winner Kew Gardens is favourite for the Aidan O'Brien - Ryan Moore combo.  He's on 5/2 and is a class act but we are leaning towards the second fav, Old Persian, who won the Dubai Sheema this year.  Godolphin have supplemented him for this and James Doyle will be in the saddle this time.  3/1 at present.  Lah Ti Dar is on 7/2 for John Gosden and Frankie Dettori, and our roughie here is Marmelo, Hughie Morrison's great stayer who resumed this season with a G3 at Newbury - he'll have Gerald Mossé riding and they've come n from 20/1 to 16/1

The Oaks is a very open race.  Pink Dogwood from the Aidan O'Brien yard is a full sister to Latrobe and is expected to appreciate the step up in trip.  Ryan Moore is onboard.  Mehdaayh has been supplemented and connections have stuck with regular jockey the veteran Robert Halvin.  He's by Frankel and has the advantage of a win over the trip and has 5/2 at present.  Stablemate Anapurna is easing slightly overnight from 5/1 to 6/1.  Our roughie here is Frankellina, who dead-heated for second in the Musidora at last outing, is great value on 14/1 with James Doyle riding for William Haggas.

The weather is fine and warm and the track is expected to be fast.

The Queen is going to unveil a statue of Lester Piggot too!
