Memorial Day racing at Santa Anita

3 minute read

The Monday Holiday sees Santa Anita host two Gr 1s and a Gr 2, all on the turf track.

The Gr 2 is the Monrovia over 1100m and sees the return of Jolie Olimpica to the turf.  The Brazilian bred Drosselmeyer product is trained by Richard Mandella and will be ridden by Mike Smith.  She won the Las Cienegas over this track and distance and is 8/5 in the Morning Line.

Aussie-bred Oleksandra is by Animal Kingdom and has a great turn of foot so has a quote of 3/1 and we have a roughie here in Ginger Nut, by Sir Prancelot, is on 15.0.

The first of the G1s is the Shoemaker Mile with 11 runners.  Chad Brown has shipped Raging Bull 7/2 and Without Parole, a former John Gosden pupil, on 4/1.  There are two others also on 4/1 – last year's Preakness winner War Of Will returning to the turf and River Boyne.

The Gamely is for the girls over 1800m with another Brown runner Etoile on 5/2.  Ollie's Candy is on 4/1, and Beautiful Lover 5/1 in what looks to be a very open race.
