Some surprises on Day 4

3 minute read

With the going drying out a bit it was still basically soft and so there were a few surprise results.

These started straight away when Dandalla stormed down the straight to win the Albany Stakes by 6 lengths from favourite Setarhe, the object of a bit of a plunge, and early favourite Mother Earth a neck away third and our roughie Undertake was in the photo for the minors and had gone off at 20/1!

The Norfolk saw a rip-roarer of a finish between The Lir Jet and Golden Pal, with the winner being the more persistent.  Imperial Force got third 15/2 and Lippizaner the O'Brien Uncle Mo in 4th.

The Hardwicke went to Gosden-Dettori with Fanny Logan 17/2 and Dettori's 70th Royal Ascot winner.  Alounah 14/1 was a couple of lengths away in second and Defoe ran well to take third.  Favourite Anthony van Dyck was a bit unlucky as he got blocked for a run at the closing stages and finished 5th.

The Commonwealth saw Clive Cox's Golden Horde come charging down the Stands side with Adam Kirby on board and finish the winner by 1½ lengths in front of Wesley Ward's Kimari and then 2 ½ lengths further back to 50/1 shot Ventura Rebel.  Millisle was 5th and not sure what happed to Pierre Lapin but he finished at the wrong end of the field.

The Queen's Vase saw Born With Pride and Punctuation have a battle for the lead from early on which meant they could not find anything against the swoopers leaving the coast clear for Santiago to come with an impressive run to win by 2 ¼ lengths from Berkshire Rocco and then Al Dabara 8 ½ lengths away third, followed by Born With Pride 4th and Punctuation 6th.
