Galway Week starts Monday but as David Jennings bemoans in the Racing Post this year it will sadly be "a party without any cake, any candles, or drink or people".  Galway week is generally measured by the size of the hangover and the number of days patrons can last out.  There are stories about people being in such bad shape that they ring all their friends and get them to say mass for them!  This time it is straightforward racing and the opening evenings feature is the Connacht Hotel Premier Handicap, where the Willie Mullins trained Sharjah, second in the Champion Hurdle, is favourite for this go on the flat.  Princess Zoe is on 4/1, Takarango 12/1 and last year's winner Great White Shark who will again be partnered by Jodie Townend.
