What a weekend!

3 minute read

The Travers weekend didn't disappoint with stunning performances and amazing upsets.

Starting off in Del Mar, on Friday My Girl Red took out the Sorrento with Get On The Bus second and nothing from September Secret who had started favourite.

On Saturday the Best Pal went to Weston who at 5/1 wasn't exactly friendless and second home was a roughie in Guther 33/1, with the favoured runners still running.

Similar situation in the Yellow Ribbon.  Jolie Olimpica was scratched and then it was Bodhicitta 5/1 the winner, Tonahutu second on 12/1 and third Harmless 31/1 and the more fancied runners not in the frame.

Over at Saratoga Friday's Special went to Jackie's Warrior with Therideofalifetime second.

Saturday's big card started with the Ballerina where Serengetti Empress turned the tables on Bellafina.  Victim Of Love 10/1 was third home ahead of Come Dancing.

Drama in the Troy when Imprimus, who was first over the line, got demoted to third by the stewards and the race was handed to American Sailor who had been second over the line and Shekky Shebaz was moved up to second.

A tight finish in the Waya where My Sister Nat just got the nod in front of Mrs Sippy.

Then the Test – what a race!  Baffert's Gamine, who had won the Acorn by 18 ¾ lengths won this by 7 lengths to Venetian Harbor.

And the Travers saw Tiz The Law justify the hype in winning by 5 ¼ lengths from Caracaro, with Max Player third.  He's now heading to the Kentucky Derby as a firm favourite.
