3 minute read

Two G3s over the long weekend for the 3yos and two open G3s during the week

There were two "Kimpai" or Gold Cup races on Wednesday 5th: the Sports Nippon Sho Kyoto Kimpai run this time at Chukyo, and the Nikkan Sport Sho Nakayama Kimpai at Nakayama.  Both were opens and with the Chukyo race going to Zadan 13.9 by a length to favourite Daiwa Cagney with the tight battle for third going to Kaiser Minoru by a head from Diatonic.  The Nakayama race went to Red Gallant 13.9 by 2 ½ lengths to Scar Face on 19.3 and the favourite Heat On Beat a neck away third.

The Sunday saw the running of the Nikkan Sports Sho Shinzan Kinen over 1600m at Chukyo for the 3yos and it went to Materiro Orion, a son of Daiwa Majoru, who was on 10.2 and a neck ahead of Solitario with Red Belle Ame third.  Favourite La Seule was back in the pack.

On Monday the Fairy Stakes was run at Nakayama and this was just for the 3yo fillies and again over 1600m.  Lilac, the Orfevre daughter, won by a neck from favourite Stars on Earth with Bijou Noir, by Kitasan Black, 17.9 third.
