Dubai Carnival Starts Friday 14th

3 minute read

There will be two G2s on the card to start things off.

They are the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 1 over 1600m with a field of 14 and the Cape Verdi for the f&m on turf also over 1600m with 10 runners.

Bhupat Seemar will saddle 5 runners in the Maktoun Challenge which includes the unbeaten Kafoo (4/1 in the UK) and Secret Ambitiion who won the Godolphine Mile last year on 9/2.  William Buick has been booked to ride the former and Tadg O'Shea the latter.  Fawzi Nass will saddle Salute The Solder 5/1 who won two rounds of the Maktoum Challenge last year and will be partnered by Adie de Vries.  There are several other runners who have good claims here but these are the top runners in the UK market.

The Cape Verdi sees the Godolphin-bin Suroor Soft Whisper on 11/10.  Franke Dettori has the ride on this girl who won the UAE 1000 Guineas last year.  Wedding Dance represents Appleby-Buick on 4/1 and the trainer has won the last 3 editions of this race.  And we like the chances of French runner Pevensey Bay, trained in France by Japanese trainer Hiroo Shimazu, with Olivier Peslier booked for the ride.
