The Stephen Autridge and Jamie Richards-trained star galloped between races at Matamata ahead of the rescheduled Hawke’s Bay feature on October 22.

The last-start G1 Windsor Park Plate (1600m) winner was partnered by his regular jockey Opie Bosson when he worked with stablemate Chance To Dance (Leith Innes), another Livamol Classic entry.

Chance To Dance is a last start winner at Pukekohe of the Listed Karaka Classic (1600m).

“It would have been a month between runs by the time we get back to Hastings, so they were out for a look around and they both went well,” Richards said.

“Opie was particularly happy with Gingernuts. He attacked the line strongly.

"Chance To Dance is an older stayer and doesn’t do too much until race day comes around, but we’re certainly pleased with the way both horses are going.

“They will both be stepping up to 2000m for the first time in this campaign and it was a great opportunity to get a bit more work into them than what they would do in the morning, so we’re very pleased and thanks to the club for letting us.”

After the Livamol, for which he is the favourite, Gingernuts will head to Australia for the $1.5 million Emirates Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on the final day of the Melbourne spring carnival.

“He’s flying, I gave him a click at the 200m and he just went whoosh,” Bosson said.

Innes was satisfied with the work of Chance To Dance, who he will continue his association with in the Livamol.

“He worked well and was good through the line, but the other horse worked exceptionally,” he said.
