TRIAL WATCH REPORT

WYONG December 19

Noted Trial Horses: Grand Exit (R4); Taken Everything (R4); Party Glow (R4); Son Of Ella (R4)

TAKEN EVERYTHING (Rosehill December 4): Impressive first trial by this Snitzel filly. She travelled strongly in the lead and was eager to go quicker over the last 400m with Tommy Berry happy to keep a strong lid on her speed. She put good time on the board (54.62; 35.20) to win by a soft 1.3 lengths with a lot in hand. Can only improve.

Emperor's Way

EMPEROR’S WAY (Peter & Paul Snowden): The race fit FIERCE IMPACT recorded a soft win but this talented middle distance performer was the eye catcher coming from last and putting in some lovely work over the last 200m under a strong hold in his second trial since September. He goes well fresh and looks well prepared for a good summer campaign.

ALIZEE (James Cummings): Her class was obvious as she really put in strongly to win her 1050m heat, having taken obvious improvement from her first-up trial at Rosehill on December 4. She settled five lengths off the lead in fourth but had no trouble making up the ground quickly and taking control in the last 150m with heaps in hand but still running much faster (1.03.43; 34.60) than the other five heats over the distance. She’s ready for the Christmas Classic at Randwick on December 29.

NOTED TRIALS: Fierce Impact; Emperor’s Way; Alizee; Southern Lad; Seaglass; Bacchus; Rome; Uralla Kingdom; Smart Decision; Julkkis; Gogoldcoast; Rexx; Yitai Synergy; To Excess; Sondelon; Constanzia.

HAWKESBURY December 17

Course Proper; Soft 5

7 Heats – 1 x 1300m (Open); 2 x 1000m (1 Open; 1 Maiden); 4 x 800m (1 2YO; 1 Open; 2 Maiden)

Bjorn Baker won three of the seven heats with two of his maiden runners HORN and EXPELLABLE making an impression with soft wins in their 800m heats. PARIS IN MAY showed good speed to win the fastest 800m heat while the Les Bridge stablemates ZONK and HELGA trialled within themselves finishing second in their 1000m heats. The 2YO heat winner GISELLE ANNE has provincial prospects.

NOTED TRIALS: Shock Alert; Verlan; Zonk; Helga; Giselle Anne; Paris In May; Horn; Expellable.

WARWICK FARM December 11

Good 4; Inside Grass

15 Heats – Heats 1-2 1200m (Open); Heats 3-9 803m (4 2YO; 3 Open); Heats 10-15 799m (6 Maiden)

SPARKY LAD (Chris Waller): A strong mid prep trial from this handy type should have ready to improve sharply next time out when he’ll be third up. Settled five lengths back on the rails and ridden quietly until it opened up for him from the 300m where he stuck to inside and made ground quickly with Tommy Berry keeping him under a tight hold. Went to the line better than the winner INVINZABEEL in the quickest of the two 1200m heats.

HAFAAWA (Hayes/Dabernig): Lindsay Park have this Redoute’s Choice filly ready to go to the races a sharp win in her second trial. She led under restraint then easily opened up a lead of three lengths between the 300m and 200m and from there comfortably held that advantage to the line although a nice effort came from ASIAGO running home nicely for second. Put the time on the board (47.54; 33.90) running the fastest of the 2YO heats.

SPLINTEX (Mark Newnham): Breeders Plate winner DUBIOUS won this trial but there was a lot more to like about the third placing from this Sniztel colt in his first trial. He was last to settle before easily spearing between runners from the 500m to be sitting second outside Dubious turning for home. From there he was kept under a tight hold by Tim Clark and went to the line with plenty in reserve while the winner did enough to hold his advantage to the line in 47.65 (33.90).

TERMINOLOGY (Waterhouse/Bott): This well regarded Star Witness filly has been placed in three of her six starts in strong company and should not be long breaking through after an impressive win in easily the fastest time of the maiden heats (46.37;33.20). Sat three deep outside the lead but was always travelling kindly and easily picked up the handy leader LASHES in the last 100m under no urging from Tim Clark. Strong maiden form.

UNIFY (James Cummings): Has trialled twice since her most recent placing at Kembla Grange and her effort in her 799m maiden heat (47.71; 34.00) won by a good type in FOXPACK was hard to miss as she peeled widest on straightening and six lengths off the lead to sprint fast to the line over the last 150m, finishing a close third with Christian Reith swinging to her. Looks ready.

NOTED TRIALS: Julian Rock; Sparky Lad; Hafaawa; Asiago; California Zimbol; Dubious; Splintex; The Drake; Demerara; You Make Me Smile; El Dorado Mine; Schubert; Prophet’s Thumb; Terminology; Lashes; Kylease; Drakenberg; Foxpack; Unify; Menagerie; Belladeel; Terminate; Katakeri; Micawber; Stage Pass.
