More Of The Same For I Am Invincible

3 minute read

Another week means only one thing in Australian racing these days – more black type success for progeny by the powerhouse sire I Am Invincible.

Saturday’s results increased I Am Invincible’s tally of stakes winners to 43 and included a Group double at Caulfield and a brilliant return to racing by one of his best fillies in a $1 million race at Warwick Farm.

The Chris Waller-trained filly Fiesta made a great start to her autumn campaign when she ran down Golden Slipper winner Estijaab to win the $1 million Inglis Sprint at Warwick Farm.

At Caulfield the Mick Price-trained three-year-old filly Crack The Code landed the G3 Kevin Hayes Stakes to provide I Am Invincible with his 43rd stakes winner before the exciting colt I Am Immortal kept his unbeaten record intact with a defiant win in the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude for colts and geldings.

The results increased I Am Invincible’s premiership tally for the current season to 22 Group and Listed winners of 29 races, more than double the number of stakes-winners of any other sire this season.

He is also the leading sire by winners (130) and wins (186) with his progeny earning $11.4 million, second only to Snitzel ($17.29 milion).

FIESTA (I Am Invincible x Now Now by Danehill Dancer) took her earnings to more than $1.1 million when she resumed from her summer spell with a classy win in the Inglis Sprint for three-year-olds.

Fiesta won the G2 Silver Shadow Stakes at the start of her spring campaign and went on to claim Sydney’s Princess Series for fillies with a strong of excellent Group performances.

Her record now stands at three wins and seven placings in 12 starts.

Denise Martin’s Star Thoroughbreds purchased the filly at the 2017 Classic Sale for $150,000 from the Fairhill Farm draft.

She is the second winner from Now Now, a five-time winner by Danehill Dancer from the family of stakes-winners Charm Scene Land, Stick Around and Kingsgate.

The timing of the win was also significant for Fairhill Farm’s Mike and Debbie O’Donnell as they will be selling Now Now at the 2019 Chairman’s Sale in April.

I Am Immortal

I AM IMMORTAL (I Am Invincible x Meliora by Ad Valorem) was part of a Group double in the 2YO races at Caulfield for the Anthony Freedman stable, preceding the win by Lyre (Lonhro) in the Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies.

I Am Immortal showed brilliant speed to win his only previous outing in the Listed Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) last month and produced a repeat performance over the extra 100m in the Prelude.

A $200,000 Easter Sale purchase by Anthony Freedman Racing and Dream Thoroughbreds, he has won over $217,000 in prizemoney runs for a big syndicate that includes his breeders Yarraman Park Stud.

I Am Immortal s the first winner out of the G2 winner Meliora, a half-sister to I Am Invincible’s stakes-winning sprinter Whypeeo.

Yarraman Park sold the current yearling from Meliora, a filly by Hinchinbrook, for $600,000 at last month’s Magic Millions Gold Coast sale to Boomer Bloodstock.

Crack The Code

CRACK THE CODE (I Am Invincible x Most Secret by Bletchley Park) provided I Am Invincible with his 43rd stakes winner to extend her record to four wins in five starts.

The filly was purchased by Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock and CB Bloodstock for $170,000 at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale from the Yarraman Park draft.

Racing in the colours of Darren Dance’s Australian Thoroughbred Bloodstock, Crack The Code has returned $283,000 in prizemoney.

Crack the Code’s pedigree boasts a strong West Australian influence, being from the successful WA-bred mare Most Secret by the noted speed sire Bletchley Park.

Most Secret, a three-time stakes winner and sister to Perth stakes winner Ebony Magic, produced 13 foals for 10 winners from 11 to race. She died in 2017 with Crack The Code her final foal.

Her previous foals included the G1 Railway Stakes winner Covertly, G3 winner So Secret and stakes-winner Secret Link.

Lyre

LYRE (Lonhro x Erato by Street Cry) also kept her unbeaten record intact when she took out the fillies’ division of the Blue Diamond Prelude, becoming the 81st stakes winner for her sire Lonhro..

Coming off a maiden win at Sale, Lyre is one of the few Godolphin owned runners in Australia not trained by James Cummings an continues Sheikh Mohammed’s long association with the Freedman stable.

“They’ve been incredibly loyal over the years,” Freedman said. “They gave us another six yearlings and this is the first of them.

“They’ve been great supporters and put so much into this industry.”

Lyre is the first winner out of Erato, a sister to the G2-placed Memorial and half-sister to the dual G1 winner Impending (Lonhro) and G3 winner Forget (Exceed And Excel).

Erato is a daughter of Mnemosyne (Encosta De Lago), also a dual G1 winner and the joint highest-rated filly in the 2005/2006 Australasian 3YO Classification.

Fiesta bounced back fresh up after a disappointing run in The Thousand Guineas (Gr.1, 1600m) last October to add win three and almost double her previous earnings in this rich sales incentive race. She was midfield soon after the start but widest of all down the back, edged closer to the leaders near the last corner but turned in five wide. She was one of four to co-lead at the 300m then she and last year's Golden Slipper Stakes (Gr 1, 1200m) winner Estijaab broke clear after leading and knuckled down to a great battle to the line with Fiesta just managing to do a little better in the last few strides. Mizzy sat three wide in third to the last corner, was one of the for co-leaders at the 300m then battled hard for a good first-up third.
