Antagonize on course for Burradon bow

Bryan Smart plans to run at Newcastle on Friday

Bryan Smart’s unbeaten Antagonize is set to put his Classic credentials on the line in the Listed Burradon Stakes over a mile at Newcastle on Good Friday.

The Epaulette colt won both his starts as a juvenile and still holds an entry in the 2000 Guineas.

With fast ground prevalent at the moment, Smart is happy to take him to the all-weather track, where he has already won.

Smart said: “That’s where it looks like we’re going. Graham (Lee) came in and rode him work on Friday and was very impressed with him, he looks great.

“We’re very pleased with where he is at the moment, we’re bringing him along slowly, but to be perfectly honest we want some rain. It’s very dry everywhere already and if it doesn’t rain soon – and there’s none forecast – we could be in bother.

“I’ve got a nice two-year-old who won first time out (Proper Beau) and I’d like to run him again, but I wouldn’t run him anywhere at the moment.

“I’ve no idea how good Antagonize is to be honest, he won both his races last year despite looking like a baby. He’s bred to get a mile from the sire, but his dam was very speedy.

“He’s a half-brother to Green Power, who is a very fast horse, and I’ve also got the half-sister that I like a lot. She looks sharp, but she’s not unlike him in build. I hope we’ve another nice filly on our hands.

“We’ll take him up to Newcastle, where he’s won, and see how we get on.”
