Frankie Dettori will pay his first visit of the summer to Germany on Sunday, partnering Miss Yoda in an attempt to secure his first victory in the Henkel-Preis der Diana (German Oaks).

Dettori's ride on the Lingfield Oaks Trial winner for trainer John Gosden will be his first in the Dusseldorf G1 since 2016, when he finished third on Architecture for trainer Hugo Palmer.

This year's race is worth €500,000 (£452,000), offering a first prize of €300,000 (£271,000) – nearly twice as much as the Investec Oaks.

Miss Yoda, a German-bred daughter of Sea The Stars, has won three times in six starts and since striking at Listed level in June has finished sixth in the G2 Ribblesdale Stakes at Royal Ascot and fourth in the Bahrain Trophy.

She is the first winning horse owned by Georg Von Opel, the billionaire great-grandson of the founder of the German car manufacturer.

Von Opel's racing manager Jamie McCalmont said: "As long as the protocols don't change, which would mean Frankie having to quarantine back in England, then he definitely rides Miss Yoda."

The race could have a maximum field with 22 horses still pre-entered on Wednesday. Final declarations will be made on Thursday with only 16 allowed to start. The top-rated German filly is No Limit Credit, who finished second in the German 1,000 Guineas, and will be ridden by Italy's champion jockey Dario Vargu.

"It looks a very competitive race – you could make a chance for about ten of them," said McCalmont. "The owners are very excited to have the first winner they have ever owned running in the German Oaks."
