The Melbourne Mail: Moonee Valley - 1st August 2020

3 minute read

The new season begins at the Valley this Saturday with a splash of new blood on the scene which makes for an interesting card.

For all that there is some interesting new blood on the scene, our best is the complete antithesis of that, with a horse that has had three runs through the winter and has been around 10 times since her most recent win - no upside here!

That horse is Propelle  Disappointing for the most part. Certainly low percentage. And almost no chance of getting any better.

She's far from a sexy pick. And the race favourite, the flashy, group-performed Brooklyn Hustle is just that. But the favourite seems short enough given the scenario and Propelle appeals as being too big, backing up off a perfect springboard race last week where she powered through the line to finish a very typical fourth.

Now she draws barrier one around the Valley. It looks troublesome, and perhaps that is getting us a roll of the board, but with good speed engaged she seems every chance of getting the air she needs off the corner where she should be able to stalk up into the race and hopefully pounce - with the favourite left needing to loop tired horses.

She's fit and good enough and we're happy to play on her getting the right run under a very much in-form Jamie Kah.

The race prior is for the just-turned-three-year-old fillies and there are some interesting runners engaged. Of most interest are the double figure quotes about Geist who has the best piece of form on offer via her Blue Diamond Prelude run.

The early favourite here is Peggy Selene who was a very solid winner two back and followed that with another good run behind Parlaphone who went to Adelaide and impressed.

But she seems to be getting a big boost in the betting courtesy of Parlaphone's efforts, not hers. Clean Machine has a faster recent figure and will be fitter. She looks the one to be favourite but Geist looks the gamble in a winnable race.
