Chan Boosted By Oaks Day Runner

3 minute read

Pierro Belle (Pierro) will also be vying for the $500,000 prize on offer in the Melbourne Cup Carnival County Cup and young trainer Smiley Chan believes it is a massive boost for his career having a runner on Oaks Day.

Pierro Belle won last time out over 1400 metres at Horsham and Chan, who is originally from Hong Kong, believes she has solid claims.

"If she wins, she can help the future of my career because she's from a Hong Kong owner and if she wins in the Spring Carnival I think more and more Hong Kong owners will know I am training in Victoria," Chan told Racing.com.

"Other than the barrier (12), I reckon she's got a good chance. Her form's really good. But every horse at this final's got a chance because they're all winners or they've ran second [in a qualifying heat], so they're pretty fit like my one as well."
