James Cummings has bought up an early double at Kensington on Wednesday with two impressive juveniles.

Brigantine and Laurelin were Godolphin's only two runners on Wednesday's program and both showed the potential to be spring contenders in their wins.

Brigantine was the first emergency when acceptances were released, but he made the field and turned in a great performance to win the Admire Mars at Arrowfield Plate (1100m).

The son of Astern is one of only four nominations for Cummings in the Group One Golden Rose.

Stable representative Darren Beadman said it's a thrill for the whole operation.

"Being by Astern, I think he was our only Astern in our two-year-old crop that we had as a home bred," he said.

"It was very satisfying to see him win here for the whole team.

"From the guys back at Kelvinside at the stud, they do tremendous work with them, bringing them through and preparing them as young horses.

"It's a big team effort.

"We've always had a good opinion, he just had to grow into himself.

"He was a bit leggy early days, but he had good natural ability and it was nice to see him finish off as he did today."

It was quickly made a double on the day when Laurelin crossed the line in eye-catching fashion in the Darley Supporting Catwalk Plate (1100m).

The daughter of Lonhro showed an explosive turn of foot at the top of the straight to break away from her opposition, being eased on the line and winning by 0.8 lengths.

James Mcdonald seemed in shock when he dismounted the two-year-old, saying she's got better things ahead of her.

"She's a super filly and that's only the icing really," he said.

"She's going to go onto bigger and better things.

"The way she executed was really nice, she got in a lovely rhythm, albeit a very quick tempo.

"But I couldn't believe that good a kick off of that, that's the sign of a very good horse.

"She's got a beautiful pedigree, so she'll live up to it."

Brigantine has shortened from $101 into $51 for the Golden Rose with tab.com.au, whilst McDonald finished with a treble on the day.
