Wyong mare Margie Bee should take a step towards the $100,000 Taree Gold Cup on November 21 should she run well in the $34,000 Bakewell Haulage Krambach Cup (1600m) at Manning Valley Race Club's TAB meeting at Taree on Friday.
A win by the six-year-old Dreamscape mare, trained by Kristen Buchanan, would deny Port Macquarie trainer Tas Morton his third try in a row to win the Krambach Cup.
His seven-year-old gelding Mister Smartee is a runner again after a half-length second behind Wyong's Mo The Great, trained by Kim Waugh in 2019. and fourth with O'Driscoll behind Port's Chamisal last year.
"I am hoping that my third go will be lucky," Morton said.
But Buchanan who has a happy knack of targetting cups and grabbing wins could again deny Morton victory.
She has been in good form with Casino Mondial, a half-head second to Mo The Great two years ago, having notched two wins with the seven-year-old gelding at Rosehill and Randwick since taking over the training from Taree mentor Michael Byers who has retired.
Casino Mondial is spelling but she does have her sights on having Margie Bee tackle the 2000m Taree Cup.
"She is honest as the day is long and I would love to win both cups," she said.
Margie Bee won over the Krambach distance in a $50,000 race at Gosford on September 22 before her fifth, beaten just over four lengths over 1500m at Rosehill at her last start on October 6.
Her other wins in 42 starts have been at Wyong (three), Newcastle, Kembla Grange, Warwick Farm and Canterbury.
The mare will be ridden for the first time by two kilo claiming apprentice jockey Jackson Searle.
And to boot, Buchanan added that the mare "loves the wet" - the track being declared heavy.
Mister Smartee has also raced well on heavy surfaces, having had seven starts for a win and three placings, the win being at Taree.
The Smart Missile gelding will again be ridden by promising Port apprentce Georgina McDonnell who grabbed a winning double at Port last Saturday.
"My horse is now down in the weights and has pulled up enormous," Morton said.
"He came from an outside barrier last start, was taken on and still put in a big run (3.6 lengths, seventh).
Four-year-old Newcastle mare La Jolie Fille showed her class in that race by scoring in the Hastings Cup over 1500m on Friday for consistent jockey Mikayla Weir.
Also a hope is five-year-old gelding Lord Jaysea, trained at Port by Neil Godbolt, the horse being a head second to stablemate Admiral Ash over 1200m and having had two wins in heavy going.
There are some great clashes in other races one being last season's find five-year-old mare Charmmebaby, trained at Taree by Bob Milligan and Standing Bear, also trained at Taree by Tony Ball who has a busy day with seven runners.
Charmmebaby surprised first-up from a spell with a close second in the rich sprint at Port, taking earnings to nearly $250,000 whereas Standing Bear was second in good company last start and they do battle in the Allan Bakewell Memorial Krambach Sprint over 1250m.
In the MCC USU Picinic Day Class 3 Handicap over 1600m, Taree's four-year-old mare Chase My Crown, trained by Joel and Wayne Wilkes, and to be ridden by Dylan Gibbons, gets its chance to score again, the horse being second in the Hastings Cup last start.
