The Risk Factor led throughout to score emphatic win in Sydeston Cup.

The Risk Factor guaranteed his place in the Group 3 Ladbrokes Launceston Cup with an emphatic win in the Sydeston Cup over 2100m in Launceston on Sunday.

The Adam Trinder-trained gelding came off a disastrous last of eight in the Summer Cup in Hobart at his previous outing, but punters still warmed to the Launceston track specialist.

The Risk Factor started the $2.60 favourite and the five-year-old gelded son of The Factor lived up to those expectations by leading throughout to win by over six lengths.

"It was a very strong staying performance but in complete contrast to his previous effort in Hobart," Trinder said.

"We took him to Hobart (Summer Cup) and that run left a question mark in everybody's mind to be perfectly honest.

"We were happy with him when he loaded up to go down to Hobart and happy with him when he got home but he went terribly and finished last beaten over eight lengths.

"But he is obviously a way better horse in Launceston, so he has earned his shot at the Launceston Cup."

Creative Hero ($10 into $5) ran on gamely to finish second with Super Swoop ($3.60) almost two lengths away third.

The winner of the Sydeston Cup gains ballot-free entry into the Ladbrokes Launceston Cup to be run on 23 February.

Troy Baker rated The Risk Factor superbly, so he has been offered the ride in the Launceston Cup.

Only 13 nominations have lobbed for this Sunday's Group 3 $250,000 Ladbrokes Hobart Cup but included are four interstate invaders in Daquiansweet Junior (Phillip Stokes), Ho Ho Khan (Mitchell Freedman), In a Twinkling (Lindsey Smith) and Lord Belvedere (Annabel Neasham).

Acceptances for the Hobart Cup and all other races on Sunday must be declared by 09:00 Wednesday with weights declared on Tuesday at 16:00.

The barrier draw for the Ladbrokes Hobart Cup will be held at Elwick (Conquering Room) lower-level main grandstand on Wednesday at 11:00.
