Grant Williams will let the dust settle on Keshi Boom’s stunning Burgess Queen Stakes (1400m) victory before mapping out a path for the outstanding filly.
Keshi Boom became the latest stakes winner for Grant Williams, who trains the three-year-old with his partner, Alana, after upsetting hot favourite, Super Smink by 1 ¼ lengths.
The Dan Morton-trained Super Smink was all the rage after her record-breaking two-year-old season and impressive first up win in the Belgravia Stakes (1200m).
A $120,000 Gold Coast yearling graduate, Keshi Boom has made a blistering start to her career and remains unbeaten after previous wins at Belmont and Northam.
Williams, who went into the Burgess Queen Stakes thinking Super Smink had the race in her keeping, says the next few days will determine which path he will take with Keshi Boom.
"She's pulled up ok, she is never one that licks the bin after a run," Williams said on Tabradio.
"She just left a few handfuls of feed and I will take more notice of that in the next couple of days.
"She's about to go to the beach this morning (Wednesday) and will do that for the next couple of days as well.
"It looks like it's a better option for us to go to the Champion Fillies Stakes at this stage.
"I think Dan (Morton) might be going to the WA Guineas with his (Super Smink).
"If it takes her (Keshi Boom) a little longer to pull up we might miss the Champion Fillies and go to the Guineas.
"But I've said to the owners don't ask me anything for the next few days, just let her tell me what she can do.
"I think the easier option is the Champion Fillies Stakes, but I need her to bounce back in the next couple of days."
Keshi Boom, a daughter of Spirit Of Boom, propelled the Williams' to 26 city winners, 14 clear of their next rival.
The husband and wife team can extend that lead at Ascot on Saturday when Casino Seventeen and Pompey contest the Listed Luckygray Stakes (1800m).
To jump from barrier one, Casino Seventeen is second-up after a slashing third to Let's Galahvant in the Northam Cup (1600m).
"He's bounced through the Northam Cup really well and is starting to get a bit of a handful which is a really good sign for him," Williams said.
"He bounces through his work, he loves it, he's pretty tough."
Meanwhile Williams says TABtouch Railway Stakes favourite Alsephina will run in Saturday week's R.J.Peters Stakes after her second in the Asian Beau Stakes when resuming last week.
"I'm doing it for fitness more than anything," Williams said.
"Willie (Pike) said she let down like she was going to win the other day, but felt she hit a wall at the 100m."
