Sydney Specials: Randwick - 14th December 2019

3 minute read

For anyone playing at the top end of town, Rosehill proved very tough last weekend with just one favourite saluting.

Away from that five of nine winners started double figure odds, two of which started >25-1.

If you jagged a few winners you certainly did well and would have no trouble filling a few stockings for Christmas.

As for me, fortunately Handspun did drag something out of the wreckage, however more than happy to put last week behind us.

I look forward to this meeting every year and while the Villiers is well below that of recent years, I feel there is still a good betting opportunity.

In the opening event the Team Snowden trained Misteed looks to get a completely different scenario on Saturday and is worth sticking with.

While no match for Kylease in her return, she notably started ahead of her in the market ($4.20 Vs $4.80) and had clear excuses.

Forced wide around the turn, she simply got too far back and found the line well under the circumstances.

Three subsequent winners have already come out of the race and she meets Kylease 2.5kg better off at the weights.

She has drawn to settle a lot closer to the speed and with good pressure up front, she should get her chance to work home over the top.

Prior to her first up run, horses just don't trial any better and I'm still confident she is back better than ever.

On talent there doesn't appear a lot between the pair and given Misteed's pull in the weights and price differential, hard not to be with her on Saturday.

Sticking with Team Snowden in the Razor Sharp with the talented Signore Fox.

An impressive winner first up, they went to Doomben at his next start and had little hope after snagging back from the wide draw.

Hitting the line well late, he was only beaten 1.3L and love him back to 1200m off a three week break.

Three of his six career wins have come over 1200m, including his two career peak performances (Timeform rated 106).

Currently in a battle for favouritism with Godolphin mare Multaja, a line can be drawn through Reelem In Ruby.

Signore Fox beat Reelem In Ruby (0.2L) two back, notably giving her 5kg, where as Reelem In Ruby beat Multaja (2.1L) last start at level weights.

No question Reelem Ruby showed good improvement since that first up defeat, however with a 2kg pull in the weights, Signore Fox gets the big tick.
