Brisbane Best: Eagle Farm – 28th December 2019

3 minute read

The summer carnival is in full swing with some good prizemoney attracting the best of the locals and some strong interstate rivals.

Competitive fields give us the chance to look for some value with a number of each way propositions on the card.
The best of those could be Silvera in the Listed Bernborough Handicap over 1600m.
The Tony Gollan trained gelding was a real eye-catcher in the Recognition Stakes (1350m) first up where he was held up badly before weaving through runners and hitting the line hard.
He will relish getting up in trip having won the Listed Tattersalls Mile at this course and distance last campaign.
Silvera has yet to miss a place second up so will strip fitter and with better fortune can be right in the finish.

A return to the Eagle Farm 1400m can see Tyzone produce his best in the Magic Millions The Buffering.

The last time the Team Edmonds gelding attempted this course and distance he was a terrific second in the Group 1 Stradbroke Handicap.
Since then he has competed in Melbourne but was good when returning to Queensland for a closing fourth in the Lough Neagh Stakes (1400m).
That run will have topped him off nicely and with some luck from the wide gate he is a player.

Niccanova staged a very good effort in winning here, his ninth win and his fourth at stakes level in 23 starts. After being caught deep from his difficult barrier (12), James Orman elected to go forward and the gelding dashed to the front at the 1000m. He then raced a bit keenly but still held a clear advantage on turning for home. He then dug deep under his top weight (59kg) when challenged to score a game win. Looks Like Elvis was quickly away from his outside barrier (14) and immediately went to the front before easing to settle in fifth place on the rails. He got into clear running on straightening, looked dangerous when he challenged at the 200m and then battled well for second after a good ride by Brad Stewart. Cool Chap raced in eighth place, one off the rails, commenced his move on turning for home and ran on really well to take third, finishing just in front of Over Exposure who made ground from midfield for fourth.
