Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on February 15.
It's Lightning Stakes Day at Flemington and the Apollo Stakes takes place at Randwick along with key meetings at Eagle Farm, Morphettville and Ascot.
Flemington: Race 4 @ 2:15pm
The Lightning Stakes is one of the highlights of the racing year in Australia and it's no different in 2020 with Nature Strip kicking off what will hopefully be a global campaign. There are no prizes (well about 50% on the dollar so a prize but nothing major) for finding Nature Strip on top in the Lightning so we will pass on the feature and instead find our bet of the day in a rather nondescript handicap down to be run as race four. It's a long way down the pecking order from the features on the card in terms of ratings, but it throws up what looks a great bet in the shape of Classic Weiwei who gets his chance to peak third up from a break. Randwick: Race 6 @ 3:10pm
A rain soaked Randwick faces punters on Saturday with a number of our stars kicking off their Autumn campaigns. I won't sugar coat it, Saturday is tough and for the most part it's probably best to just watch and learn. Eagle Farm: Race 3 @ 1:43pm
A significant weight drop sees capable sprinter Usmanov well placed at Eagle Farm on Saturday. The Team Edmonds gelding is racing in good form and looks to tick a lot of boxes for the Girls Day Out Feb 22 No Metro Win over 1000m. An easy Gold Coast winner first up and a close up placegetter at his next run, Usmanov was last seen four weeks ago when getting home well for fourth at this course and distance. Read More
Ascot: Race 6 @ 4:10pm
It is closing in toward the Autumn carnival where the Derby is the highlight and there are some Listed races on the card. The Challenge Stakes is one of those and the big Williams yard has the two main hopes. Given William Pike has chosen Superstorm over a G3 winner, we are happy to tag along for the ride. Read More
Morphettville: Race 4 @ 1:56pm
We have a little taste of some better races to come with an Adelaide Cup lead up at Morphettville. A horse who probably won't get to that level but is bred to and runs for the Adelaide Cup winning trainer is Dark Alley in Race 4. Off a break he got home nicely at Warrnambool and then loved the added ground at Geelong. Read More
