The autumn's newest and biggest race, the All Star Mile, takes centre stage at Caulfield this weekend.

The inaugural running of the All Star Mile was won by the Australian Guineas-winning three-year-old and the market elect this time around fits the same mould. Alligator Blood starred in the Australian Guineas and his chance of adding the All Star Mile to his haul is an obvious one. 

Alas, it is as obvious to the market as it is to our massive team of form hounds here at The Melbourne Mail. What has the market missed with Alligator Blood? Not much, and so for a betting option we must look elsewhere, and that search yeilds something of interest in the same race - Regal Power. 

Regal Power hit the peak in the Australian Cup that he had long looked like hitting. He just found one too good on the day with Fifty Stars lethal backing up off a high-rating mile win the week before.  

Regal Power was buzzed up pre-race and then keen in the run. So the back up could well knock the edge off him here and while the step back to the mile may look a tough test he draws well enough to stay in touch and, all things being well, he will be strong as an ox late on. 

Double-figure quotes seem to undersell his chances. 

For a best on the card we will roll back to the first where Rainbow Thief heads the betting after putting it all together at Sandown last time.  

He won well there, and put a space on the runner-up Skiddaw, and so turning the tables won't be easy. Skiddaw was just first-up though and it was a well-run race. It would be no shock to see him much fitter for that and the Caulfield mile is where he produced his peak rating back in the spring - a rating that would go a long way to turning the tables on Rainbow Thief on Saturday. 

The price is right to back him to reverse that form and get All Star Mile Day off the a flyer.
