Today’s Horse Racing Tips – 5th August 2020

3 minute read

Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on August 5.

Racecourse : Canterbury Park.
Racecourse : Canterbury Park.

Five TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Wednesday at Canterbury, Cranbourne, Sunshine Coast, Belmont & Gawler.

Canterbury: Race 6 @ 3:45pm

Lillemor and Vitesse the likely leaders. Strong race. EMERALDS (5) caught the eye first up, closing well into fourth behind Killin on the Kensington. Track played extremely leader-ish that day and she was one of the genuine eye catchers in terms of running on through the entire meeting. Will be fitter for the run and lone career win came at a prior second up outing. Looks hard to beat with James McDonald in the saddle with Blinkers first time. LILLEMOR (4) has been a model of consistency this preparation. Drops back from Saturday level and lone win so far this prep came at this course and distance. Well drawn and gets the 3kg claim used to good effect. VITESSE (6) will work forward from a low gate and be prominent throughout. EMPRESS BEA (9) a lightly-raced mare with good upside. Include. SELECTIONS: Straight out Emeralds.

Cranbourne: Race 5 @ 2:45pm

A moderate tempo with Clean Acheeva the likely pacemaker. LUNAR FLARE (2) seeks the hat-trick and was much too good here this grade the latest as favourite following the Sandown near-miss. Oliver sticks and the mare can go right on with it. AUSTRIA (8) was beaten 1.3L by the above the latest getting back to her best. Not sure the rail will suit the back runner, but with even luck she's a genuine chance. QUEEN OF TARTS (7) finds easier grade and deserves consideration forgiving the latest run at Caulfield. LEVEN LASS (9) didn't have much luck at Warrnambool and comes to peak. She will be around the mark. SELECTIONS: #2 Lunar Flare is promising and can keep the wins rolling.

Gawler: Race 6 @ 4:10pm

A few can race handy but it's not clear who leads over the middle-distance. AMMO LOCO (6) deserved the comfortable CL1 win and then wasn't beaten far at this level. He will get the run of the race from the low draw and can bounce with a top hoop (Vorster) sticking. KARAOKE EXPRESS (9) has improved the last two and drops in grade. He looks well-weighted and has solid each way claims. SPIEGEL GROVE (5) got a lot closer as equal favourite the latest. He's up to this and gets another chance. PERSIAN EMPIRE (2) improved sharply missing a lip at Murray Bridge coming hard. He always needs a good ride but is well in the mix holding that form. SELECTIONS: A very competitive set of races. #6 Ammo Loco will get all the favours and is the one to beat.

Sunshine Coast: Race 8 @ 5:15pm

Plenty of speed in the last headed by Modelka, Moonshine Lady and Let's Go Bobby. IMA TEAMBOY (6) sat just behind the speed and battled on okay to finish a length from the winner when resuming over this course and distance last start. Drops quite a bit in class today and he has won second up in the past. The winner of three races and all have been at 1000m here on his home track. MOONAN JOYCE (14) improved sharply last time out when beaten narrowly over 900m at the Gold Coast. Has a 50% top-three strike rate at this trip. Sure to be in the finish from a nice gate. MODELKA (13) is a promising mare returning from a 20-week spell. Scored at the first two races of her maiden campaign with bold front-running displays. Won a recent trial so looks set for a bright return although she is at prohibitive odds in early markets. DOLLY SPARTAN (9) is a super-consistent mare returning from a 195-day spell. Boasts a excellent stats at this course and distance and is a very effective fresh performer. SELECTIONS: #6 Ima Teamboy is tremendous each-way value.
