It's Winterbottom Stakes Day in the west with a good card at Ascot backed up by the Festival Stakes at Rosehill, the Carlyon at the Valley and the Recognition Stakes at Doomben.

Ascot: Race 9 @ 7:30pm

The middle of the Masters Series in Perth is the sprint but it has been affected by the restrictions in place. If form, ability and connections are anything to be followed then Trekking has to be winning the G1 Winterbottom Stakes. Here is a horse who before a spell won a Goodwood beating Gytrash, a horse who took all before him in Sydney. Read More

Moonee Valley: Race 8 @ 5:20pm

A couple of delayed features add some spice to an otherwise fairly uninspiring meeting at the Valley this weekend. The McKenzie pulls together a handy little field. Just seven line up but three of them are last-start winners and the favourite Deep Speed comes off a good effort at Flemington when a fast 1400m was probably just beyond him. Back to 1200m he looks hard to beat but Nicolini Vito is showing plenty among others and all things considered the race looks priced up about right. The Carlyon offers us a way in however, with Coruscate appealing as the most likely winner and prices potentially underselling just how well he is going at the moment. Rosehill: Race 7 @ 5:00pm

We now return to Rosehill on Saturday, which officially kicks off the summer of racing. I enjoy this period every year, you get served up good fair tracks and can often catch a horse on the way up who's been held back from the Spring carnival. The James Cummings trained Phaistos was very good fresh behind Windstorm, before failing to fire a shot in the Sale Cup. Doomben: Race 3 @ 1:33pm

A good day of racing at Doomben on Saturday where the better bets look to be early in the program. Progressive mare Gin 'N' Bitters has a sense of timing about her third up. The Bill Healey-trained five-year-old ran on to be beaten just 1.3L at this track and trip first up then lifted her rating when runner up to handy mare Niedorp last time. Read More

Morphettville: Race 4 @ 2:21pm

Adelaide heads to the summer period – and at least we are racing this weekend. One fascinating runner that finds a race much more to her talents is Divanation. Naturally when you are Makybe Diva's daughter and by Black Caviar's brother you get some perhaps unwarranted attention. Read More
