It is Christmas Handicap day and that is always a competitive sprint race with many hopes.

That said, a mare who totally deserves a win for her excellent Spring is Too Good Too Hard and she is well in the betting.

Taken to Melbourne for the carnival, she was decent in the Northwood Plume before being very good in the Black Pearl and then excellent in the Begonia Belle on Derby Day.

Perhaps the month off and trip back saw her needing the run when getting home into third in the City Of Marion Stakes.

She will be back and winding up but this race sees that is often the case. Has to be hard to hold off.

Watch for Li'l Kontra to improve in it getting back to the 1200m which does suit her more.

In the race prior, looking for a big first up effort from Call Me Shamus.

The gelding comes from an in form yard with Phillip Stokes and while he's only won one race, many have come in better quality than this in Melbourne.

He won't have to do any sort of work from the draw and this is hardly a stellar line up against him.

Just follow the betting to see how much confidence is around for him.
