Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on January 22

Racecourse : Canterbury Park (Australia)
Racecourse : Canterbury Park (Australia)

Nine TAB meetings are held across Australia on this Friday at Canterbury (night), Port Macquarie, Mornington, Moonee Valley (night), Dalby, Sunshine Coast (night), Esperance, Port Lincoln & Canberra.

CANTERBURY: RACE 7 @ 9:15PM

PERIGORD (1) has been finding the line soundly enough in each of his two runs back from a spell, the latest at this course, class and distance. Is a dual winner at this track and has also won third up in the past. Like the booking of Tim Clark. Suspect it is a case of third time lucky this prep. NOSEY (5) is of interest. Hit the ground running at his stable debut for Kris Lees when winning at Gosford first up. Creating even more interest is the fact James McDonald sticks. ON HER WORD (9) was sent out as favourite at Wyong last start despite being first up after well over a year away from racing. Would have been in dire need of that outing. Has always shown promise. Expect improvement second up. MOSSMAN GORGE (3) was making late ground in stronger company last start. Easier here and has placed in each of his two prior outings to Canterbury. GENERAL SOHO (2) is an honest customer who has finished second in his past two runs at this course. Must be kept safe. SELECTIONS: Win bet Perigord.

CANBERRA: RACE 7 @ 4:45PM

A strong line-up. KATTEGAT (7) won the Moruya CL3 easily third-up as expected building on the two city placings. He has the figures and the upside. Draws for a soft run and performs fourth-up. Looks the one to beat. MR KYLIN (6) led and missed a lip here in Open grade and then raced in the rich Magic Millions Country Cup on the Gold Coast beaten 3L. Is back after 13 days so must be pleasing and the leading hoop will have him quickly on the speed. TEJORI (5) placed twice including in town and then was heavily-backed in Open grade at Wagga and led and stopped. She's won a Canberra trial since and is a decent chance on rebound. MNEMENTH (3) resumes for the Albury yard and the late market will be interesting with him. Led and won the 66 before the spell and can come back to racing even better. Anticipate a bold run riding the speed from the low gate.SELECTIONS: Backing Kattegat to win.

 DALBY: RACE 9 @ 5:35PM

BRAZEN DYNAMO (8) is hard to go past. He's won three of his past four. Class above them last start at the Gold Coast. Blinkers on for a horse whose doing so well without them is a weird one but it's not enough to tip against her. Can bring up the hat-trick. OCTAVIAN (4) came of age last preparation. Stanley a key booking. Look for him late. DECISIVE HEART (7) resumes for the Edmonds stable. Two trials in readiness have been crisp. Watch the market. LAST ARMAGEDDON (1) and FA FA (11) best of the rest. SELECTIONS: Brazen Dynamo to end proceedings.

ESPERANCE: RACE 3 @ 4:05PM

DEEL RED (1) presents fitter and has led and won both runs back. Did it comfortably the latest at the mile and just has to run out the middle distance to win again. SALVARA (4) is up 600m but is racing well and expect her to be finishing it off well. STAIRWAYTOTHEMOON (2) will be better for the two runs back and goes well this trip. She can make quick improvement. O'SO TEMPTING (5) just missed the placings behind Deel Red in a return to his best NSW form. He's in the mix.SELECTIONS: Sticking with Deel Red.

MOONEE VALLEY: RACE 4 @ 8:00PM

VIRIDINE (3) is a much travelled galloper who had good form down in Melbourne during the year. Stats at The Valley may not read well, but they were both over 1000m and he is much better placed at this trip. Should go close. STREETS OF AVALON (1) returns from a short break after racing in tougher company during the spring. Yet to win first-up, but small field at weight-for-age suits and a forward showing is expected. WIDGEE TURF (2) is coming off an unsuccessful spring campaign. Has loads of ability and stable is in excellent form. Expected to give this a shake while fresh. TAVISAN (5) can be a difficult proposition to follow but he does race well here as a rule with a win and three placings from five runs. On his best figures he is too dangerous to ignore. SELECTIONS: Back Viridine.

MORNINGTON: RACE 7 @ 4:40PM

BLACK OPAL (2) is fast and has been racing in stronger city races. Was plain the latest but the two prior stack right up. Can control the race from the rail and with the 3kg claim will be very hard to knock off. MISTER MONARO (4) was tracking well before the disappointing run at Stony Creek as favourite. Wasn't beaten far in better grade at The Valley the one before and a bounce is likely. AREYOULISTENING (3) drops back a level and has more to give third-up. Keeps Mott and can show something today. MAJOR PATERSON (1) deserved the win in lesser grade. He will push forward and is in the mix. SELECTIONS: Backing Black Opal to win.

PORT LINCOLN: RACE 3 @ 3:50PM

ISA SECRET (2) showed good speed here last time over 1210m and stalked the lead before boxing on well finish second, beaten half a length. Expected to atone this time. SPANISH HEIRLOOM (3) recorded a strong maiden success over 1000m at Bordertown last time, winning by 1.75 lengths. Has the pace to take a forward position and best figures should see her run well. CARALUE (4) broke her maiden four back and not far away since, the latest when a 2.5 lengths second over 1000m at this track. Should be parked just off the speed and is capable of going close on best figures. RIVERSIDE ROCK (1) was a determined maiden winner last time out, scoring by a nose over 1210m at this track. Good run last time but this tougher and rates a place chance here SELECTIONS: Isa Secret can return to winning form.

PORT MACQUARIE: RACE 7 @ 4:30PM

CHARMMEBABY (7) makes her return. She's always been a smart mare and hasn't been sighted since triumphing at Rosehill in Highway grade. Ticks all the right boxes here on the home track. Expecting a bold performance. GANGIKA (1) failed at Randwick last start. She was shooting for three on the bounce after wins at Lismore and Kempsey. Freshened and back to her right level she can hit back. MONICA'S STAR (8) was impressive winning at this track first-up last preparation. Two runs subsequently in Highways were creditable. She's elite on the home turf and demands plenty of attention. ISLAND DAZE (5) and DUAL ESCAPE (2) for the multiples. SELECTIONS: Charmmebaby for the win.
