Racing and Sports highlight our standout plays for Australian TAB meetings on February 28.
Australian thoroughbred TAB meetings today are held at Mudgee, Ballarat, Sunshine Coast, Balaklava and Colac.
MUDGEE: RACE 1 @ 12:55 PM
Former Godolphin galloper DULCERO (4) has improved in both runs for the new stable this time in and strikes a winnable race here. Went very close at Tamworth last start and will be nearing peak fitness third-up from a lengthy spell. The one to catch. LAKE TAI (1) was well-tried on debut in a harder race at Newcastle and can take plenty of benefit from that experience. From a leading yard and looms as the main danger. CHEEKY NUGGET (2) has gotten better with every career start and gets 2kg off with the claim. Can be in the mix. SELECTIONS: Dulcero to win.
BALLARAT: RACE 2 @ 1:55 PM
FIRE WHEEL (2) has only gone down narrowly in both career starts to date and looks a strong chance of going one better here with the Blinkers going on. He was heavily supported last start and showed he could race handy to the speed after getting back on debut. He looks the one to beat. RAAZOU (4) resumes here off an encouraging Trial effort and he looms as a danger fresh having run second on debut when well in the market. Consider. SOLISTAS (5) makes his local debut here having finished close up in two runs to start his career in New Zealand. He creates plenty of interest. Keep safe. WAR GENERAL (6) first up here was well supported in both career runs to date and can figure in the finish here with natural improvement. HELMITON (3) may need the run first up but is worth including in the multiples. SELECTIONS: Fire Wheel has his hoof on the till.
SUNSHINE COAST: RACE 4 @ 1:55 PM
NICCI'S SPIRIT (3) peaks off three placings this grade and was favourite at Eagle Farm the latest. Draws perfectly and can win for the leading yard. PATTY'S FORTUNE (7) just missed the placings in the same race and gets a 2kg claim today. She's threatening and looks right in it. BACK WHEN (6) just missed her in the 60 before the spell and won the Rockhampton Maiden first-up heavily-bet. Has won a trial since and keep very safe with Wiggins coming down to ride. SELECTIONS: A sense of timing about Nicci's Spirit.
BALAKLAVA: RACE 7 @ 5:10 PM
CASINO SEVENTEEN (17) defeated the talented Biarchi and went to the paddock after running 8th behind Ain'tnodeeldun in the Listed Hill-Smith Stakes. That's strong form for a race like this. ENLIST (3) has been OK his past couple behind Trumpsta and Mr Coyne and has been placed here. He draws well and Kayla Crowther. REGAL DOMAIN (4) ran really well at a huge price first up at Gawler behind Rose Tiara and a repeat would be right in the finish here. SELECTIONS: Casino Seventeen to win.
COLAC: RACE 3 @ 2:50 PM
QUEEN RYKER (7) looks to have found the perfect race to break through. Not far away in tougher maiden last time and is expected to go close here. HIGH FEROCITY (1) was well supported when resuming but just missed out on a placing at Warrnambool. Fitter this time around and is expected to feature. RIDE OF A LIFETIME (4) ran well two starts back before a disappointing display at Swan Hill last time. Well worth giving another chance in this line up. SPECIAL TREATS (5) was off a freshen up when making some late ground at Yarra Valley last time. Not the strongest of line ups here and is worth considering. SELECTIONS: Back Queen Ryker.
