Best From The West: Belmont – 6th July 2019

3 minute read

Some Listed racing highlights the Belmont program on Saturday.

Hoping for more success for these colours.

The Belmont Oaks is one of the features and Mystery Miss looks the good thing her price suggests.

Already a winner of the Belgravia Stakes, she also won the Belmont Guineas two weeks ago.

Coming from well back, she wound over the top at the mile so getting to the 2000m can only be of benefit.

As long as there is enough pace on, she is easily the one they will all have to worry about.

(True Attraction in the Aquanita Stakes has the same form lines so maybe include in the all up).

For a little more value, Musical Art in Race 7 should be ready to show something third up off a long break.

He ran a bottler resuming and then flattened out second up which they can do. He was fancied in that race.

Another 100m gives him the chance to run on in what should be an open race, especially on this wet surface.

Mystery Miss ambled out of the stalls to sit third last with a lap to run but past the 1600m jockey William Pike eased her away from the fence. Still third last at the 1200m and at the 800m Pike waited until inside the 600m to make a forward move, pulled four wide turning in then cruised up to take the lead at the 200m. Pike kept her honest to the line but she had too many guns, out by two and half lengths to make it five wins from eight starts including three stakes – two in succession. Cockatiel was fifth at the 1000m, followed the winner into the straight and stayed on quite well without endangering the winner to claim second. Ping Me Another led at the 600m, carted them in and tried to slip clear, was collared at the 200m then held on for third from Forgotten Star who got going too late, finishing on for fourth.
