Sydney Specials : Rosehill - 13th July 2019

3 minute read

A couple at each way odds later in the program peak the interest for Winter Stakes Day at Rosehill.

The first is Gaulois who contests the Listed Winter Stakes (1400m).

The son of Street Cry impressed last start, taking out the Listed Civic Stakes (1350m) at this course a fortnight ago against a number of the same horses he faces on Saturday.

It was an impressive win, one which coincided with his first look at a heavy track in almost two years.

Gaulois thrives on rain affected ground with his wet track record reading three wins and three minor placings from seven starts.

He will again get those conditions at Rosehill on Saturday.

At each way odds, Gaulois’ consistency across several of tomorrow’s key race factors are hard to ignore.

As well as relishing rain affected ground, the four-year-old’s course and distance credentials are also strong.

The James Cummings-trained sprinter should be peaking fourth run from a spell.

For those who were with Gaulois in the Civic Stakes, it very much shapes as a case of ‘if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’. For those who missed out, it’s not too late to jump on the bandwagon with $8.00 shaping as a generous quote.

In the final event of the day, Drachenfels also has genuine appeal at each way odds.

Drachenfels has improved with each run this campaign and has hit the line hard in his past two starts, the latest at third at this course, class and distance. Below are the replays of Drachenfels' past two starts, watch for him settled at the back of the field before running on well nearer to the fence.

Luck has evaded the five-year-old so far this prep who has been forced to make his runs nearer to the rail on inferior ground.

Like Gaulois, Drachenfels goes into Saturday fourth run from a spell. He should be at his peak and is certainly due a change in fortunes.

That change could be assisted courtesy of Blake Shinn in the saddle who is enjoying some rare form at present.
