For the first time ever, a provincial race club will host an open class, all entry race for $1m as Newcastle holds The Hunter this Saturday.
The weather is shaping up superbly (even allowing for all those devastating bush fires which are still going on so a big shout out to the firefighters).
The first of the runners we can see dominating at Broadmeadow is the Tulloch Lodger Rule The World.
The NJC Spring Stakes has been moved to this meeting as it was being swamped by other races in September and this 3yo might add his name to a list of winners that are synonymous with quality.
The Gooree gelding won well on wet ground to begin his career but then after a break came back and scored on good going at Rosehill.
He could well have been underdone then with this in mind and you'd expect he'll roll to the front or right on the speed anyway.
Tim Clark is a noted top rider of those types and we are expecting he'll get a break on any challengers to then hang on.
Over to the last on a big day and we have to wait until 6.15pm but it will be worth the while as Leviathan resumes off some nice trials.
The Snowden 3yo won on debut and then ran into no less than Funstar when beaten a head at Randwick. We know how strong that form has turned out.
Looking for him to land just off the pace here which should be solid enough given the field size.
From there we are cheering on a Tim Clark double as he brings him home up the centre of the big track.
