The clash of progressive Singapore newcomers Sacred Gift and Surge creates one of the more interesting events on the 10-race card at Kranji on Saturday.
The Australian-bred pair headline a field a containing a few with talent in the Class 4 over 1100m.
Sacred Gift has been a real find since arriving from New Zealand as a lightly raced maiden having won both of his starts in Singapore so far.
He kicked off for Mark Walker by showing good speed to sit on the pace before racing away to win his maiden over 1000m by three lengths.
He then showed he was a horse of promise by stepping up to today's company where he camped just behind the pace before breaking away to win by 2.5 lengths.
Both of those wins were on the all weather so he has already proven his liking for the surface and he has been strong enough at the end of his races to suggest the extra 100m won't cause him any problems.
Jockey Benny Woodworth sticks with Scared Gift and while takes on a few horses with ability today but he does look to have enough upside to suggest he is capable of racing through his grades.
Also making progress since his arrival in Singapore is Surge, who raced in Australia as Osorno.
Finishing midfield at his Kranji debut on turf, Surge appreciated the switch to all weather when camping on the pace before drawing away late to win by a length in today's grade.
He looks to be a real fan of the all weather and gives the impression he has more to come as he continues to settle into his new surroundings in Singapore.
California resumes off a short but successful campaign where he scored a fresh win along with a placing from just two starts.
Easy winner of a recent trial and expect he will be continuing to develop with maturity so he should be primed for another good showing fresh.
Tax Free has been thereabouts of late and there was plenty to like about his latest effort when beaten just 1.2 lengths at this course and distance.
He looks capable of featuring in the finish again.
Winning Legend boxed on well for a 1.2 length third here last time and broke through for a maiden win when leading throughout three back.
He has some upside.
Good luck and good punting.
