Racing returns to Caulfield and it's a deep card full of big and competitive fields.

It's a really deep card and an each-way punters dream and that's the angle we are going to be taking, finding a pair of each way bets on the card.

Undoubtedly one of the most interesting runners on the day is Russian Camelot. He runs in Race 7 which looks a terrific contest with plenty hitting the race heading the right way.

Russian Camelot is one of them, and finds himself far better suited than he was when resuming, but he still finds his price in the early betting and options around him are preferred.

One of those is The Lifeline who Russian Camelot ran by first up but has since gone to Mornington and improved sharply, setting up a good overall time and getting back to the sort of form he showed in the spring.

He strung good efforts together in that preparation and if he can do so again, building on his Mornington run here, he is capable of giving them all plenty to chase. $18.00 in early markets seems much too big.

The second on the card is a staying contest largely made up of horses coming through the Mornington Cup. The weight scale changes here and makes the task all the tougher for Inverloch who was the best of them at Mornington, while opening the door for Beau Balmain who showed some signs of life last time and might build on that now with the blinkers on.

He looked promising enough last campaign and could well be ready to recapture that promise now - $11.00 appealing as the right price to find out.

THE MELBOURNE MAIL

Bet Of The Day: Race 7 #9 The Lifeline @ $18.00
