The Melbourne Mail: Caulfield - 11th July 2020

3 minute read

Saturday's Caulfield card is highlighted by the Sir John Monash Stakes and the great Jungle Edge.

Jungle Edge chases his 19th win at his 82nd start and the Monash looks to give him a pretty good chance of achieving that. His form has generally been fantastic around Caulfield, with some big efforts around the 1100m here, and if he is anywhere near his best then he won't be for catching. Having said that, he has thrown up a few misses in recent times and while he is undoutedly the highlight on the day he doesn't quite make it as our 'bet of the day'.

That honour goes to Morrissy earlier on the card in race four - a particularly off-season-looking off-season handicap...

Morrissy was surprisingly easy to back last time out off a strong rating at the Valley. As it turned out he got all the favours in run and waltzed away for a soft win that didn't require his best. That leaves him looking sure to have more to offer and he walks straight into a race where opposition is light on.

Not just opposition to win the race, but opposition to find a positive spot in running. The door looks wide open for him to roll up outside a gentle lead again under an in-form Craig Williams and if he posts anything like the speed figure he did two back good luck to the chasers.

Race six is a good 2000m handicap for three-year-olds where Right You Are heads the betting off a strong effort in a high-rating race at Flemington last time.

His claims are fairly obvious on the back of that, but he will potentially need a good steer (has the right jock for that) from the wide draw with key danger Thought Of That sure to be ahead of him in the run.

The race has a long tail, and the chances seem thin, so each way odds about Thought Of That are appealing back to the scene of his peak effort to date when he thumped the Derby winner in good time on Caulfield Cup Day back in the spring.

He hasn't been anywhere near that sort of form in four runs since but his latest was a game effort on speed and might have been a little sign of a return to something like his best.

If he finds it, he wins, but he only really has to edge towards it to give punters a good look for their money.
