As we close in on the Magic Millions carnival, some of the big players are coming out to play in its lead up at Doomben.
Certainly not going to insult you by tipping Coolangatta in the McLachlan Stakes but will be watching her closely.
On a day of good betting we are going later in the card and start with the Falvelon Quality which has many chances and good stakes quality horses entered. There will be speed on for certain.
One who may fly under the radar resuming is Desert Lord and he will be nearing double figures come race time.
He has a good overall record anyway but the last 12 months has seen him at his best winning a Goldmarket and placing in a Glasshouse and Weetwood.
OK, they aren't great Listed races but consider it was Apache Chase he almost ran down at Toowoomba and even gave him weight that day. We know what that horse has gone on to do since then.
Suspect he will ease and slot in about midfield with that tempo on and try to rattle late as leaders can tire.
The last then is also an each way gamble on Glitter Strip for Tony Gollan.
This now mare was taking on the carnival 3yos back earlier in the year and not being far off the likes of again Apache Chase, Ayrton and Our Playboy in those good races.
Resuming, she was well back at Listed level after drifting early to be in the second half of the field.
Some six lengths back on the corner she closed off well to be under half that at the finish.
The key though is that 1200m is short of her best and her last victory was this course and distance in May. Expecting a good improvement from her this time.
