Peter and Paul Snowden-trained filly Missile Mantra followed her smart win on debut in a two-year-old fillies’ maiden (1100m) at Ballarat on April 23 with an impressive performance in taking out this Listed raced.

Starting a well-supported favourite, she settled back in tenth place (wide with cover) from her difficult barrier (10). She improved wide out on turning for home, challenged nearing the 100m and then proved far too good in winning by just under a length.

Tony McEvoy-trained filly Grand Scholar raced in fourth place on the rails, looked the winner when she took and inside run and went to the front approaching the 200m. She then fought well for second, finding the late-closing winner too good. Express Pass raced in last place after starting from the outside barrier (14).

He went deep on straightening and caught the eye in running on late for third in a smart effort on debut.

Godolphin-raced colt Hilo was slow to move from his inside barrier (1), settled in ninth place on the rails, got along the inner coming to the home turn and then battled on nicely for (3.1 lengths) fourth on debut. Moldova , a winner of her only two prior starts, again went to the front but she was pressured for the lead before finishing (4.4 lengths) fifth.
