Galaxy Star wins Belmont Sprint Group 3 $150,000 at Belmont Park, 1400m.
With this her 12th win, ultra consistent Galaxy Star has, in her 17 race career, finished first or second 16 times, but almost left it too late here and needed a late lunge to get home by a half length.
She settled second last in the small field of seven and although closer to the lead rounding into the home straight, she remained in second last position. Winding up through her gears she caught the leaders two strides off the post and was doing best when it mattered.
Great Shot took over the lead at the 1000m, was still in front narrowly at the 200m and never gave up but was caught near the line.
Vital Silver went up to challenge the leader at the top of the straight, almost levelled then fought on for a close up third from Mizlecki ,who got to third at the 200m then battled on for fourth.
