Deprive had no favours in the running but had the last say, driving between runners to clinch his fourth Randwick win on the trot, sixth from nine starts and his maiden stakes win. He drifted to third last soon after the start and sat second last, one out, past the 600m. At the top of the straight he was blocked, switched towards the fence and went after the leaders. He found a split at the 200m, raced through to catch them and co-lead at the 100m then stretched out well to get there by a half length. Bon Amis was a handy fifth (rails) past the 800m, pulled five wide from the top of the straight and went up to co-lead at the 200m. He led briefly on his own but was unable to withstand the challenge of the winner. Brook Magic was one of three to lead at the 400m, still there at the 150m but was outgunned to the line while Boss Lane kept on solidly next to the fence the length of the straight for fourth.
